Travel Nursing Made Easier With These 5 Awesome Apps

Travel Nursing Apps

When you’re on your way to a new city for your first travel nursing assignment, you might feel a little bit intimidated especially if it’s a city you have never been to before. Everything is so new that even going to the Laundromat could feel like an adventure. And while that in itself is good for the soul, a little guidance can keep a person sane.

Luckily, there are numerous available apps in the market that can make the lives of travel nurses that much easier.

Here are five apps that you simply can’t do without:

  1. Yelp
This is a handy app to have to check out restaurants, cafes, movie theaters, shops, etc near you. Yelp accesses your phone’s GPS to pinpoint where you are and then, depending on what you’re looking for, it will display options for you to choose from along with reviews. You can filter your search by price, rating, and deals. You can even create your own review!
  2. Goby
This is a fun little app that gives you information on different sightseeing possibilities. Goby features some 350 categories to choose from including Places of Interest, Outdoor Recreation, Sightseeing & Tours, Arts & Culture and many more. It also allows you to add a venue to the app’s fun feed so that you can receive updates. For instance, if you’re particularly smitten by a music venue, add it to your fun feed and you’ll get information on who’ll be playing there in the future.
  3. GasBuddy
A concern about living in a new city for travel nurses is that they’re unfamiliar with where to get cheap gas. At home you have your preferred gas stations but where do you go for gas in unexplored territory? Download GasBuddy and you’ll know exactly where to go. This nifty app provides a list of nearby stations along with their prices. Click on a station to get directions. You also have the option to view gas service stations in a map.
  4. Wi-Fi Finder
You may already have this in your smartphone. If not, be sure to download the app. The housing provided for you by your staffing firm might not have Internet connection. The good news is that hundreds of establishments offer free Wi-Fi. You can find them with the Wi-Fi Finder. What’s so great about this app is that it also provides you with directions on how to get to a hotspot so you don’t have to roam around in a desperate attempt to locate one.
  5. Skype
Travel nursing can be a lonely profession, especially the first couple of weeks of an assignment. Being away from friends and family can take its toll. You can text and call, of course but there’s nothing like chatting face-to-face with a loved one. Skype allows you to set up video and/or audio chatting. The best part is that as long as you’re connected to Wi-Fi you can chat for free!
  6. (Bonus App) Health4Me
If your staffing firm provides healthcare plans under UnitedHealthcare, then this mobile application can help you manage your coverage more easily. You can look up accredited physicians near you, check the status of a claim or get great support from UnitedHealthcare.

Living in a new city all by yourself for a period of time can get scary. But today’s technology has made it easier for travel nurses to adjust to their new environment more quickly. With these apps and others like them to help you, there’s no reason why you can’t fully enjoy the travel experience with minimal fuss.
